One of the first few smartwatches that I bought for a review was the Umidigi Uwatch 2s. It’s super stylish, fits in any scenario and looks great. It’s not like the traditional boxed watches. In fact it suits both casual and formal wear.

• The Uwatch 2s has a standby time of 25 days, but the working time is around 7 days based on my tests
• The magnetic design of the strap makes it easy to wear and adjust without having to find the holes and plus it looks seamless
• I tested the notification features which works seamlessly through Bluetooth.
• It has a 1.33-inch touchscreen, although the screen itself is a square enclosed in a round body
• The heart rate monitor in the back is pretty cool and it does measure the heart rate, but the accuracy of the numbers cannot be trusted
• The sports tracking features are pretty cool. Although I compared the Bip Lite’s pedometer to this and I saw a massive difference. Once you measure how much distance you’ve covered through a separate app, you’ll know how many steps equates to how much distance.

From Fitbit, Verse 3 provides excellent competition to the GTS 2 and GTR 2 In terms of price and functionality. Then we have the latest edition from Fitbit that is a sense which is quite expensive and is the best Fitbit has to offer at the moment. 

If you want decent fitness tracking features on a smart sleek-looking smartwatch body, the lower-priced GTR2 and GTS2 will definitely fit in your budget. If you’re looking for a classy build with a more fully-formed look, Verse 3 and Sense should be your choice but for a higher price.

It supports smartwatch features like modular watch faces, music playback control, event calendar and notification alert.

The Versa 3 has quite a sleek and slim design with a square body that is waterproof for up to 50 meters, It is an excellent choice for swimmers to maintain their swimming schedules and to track their swimming goals.

The Versa 3 stands out for its proficient tracking when it comes to fitness tracking, sleep monitoring, and women’s health monitoring. It offers over 15 exercise modes and also includes a Fitbit automatic exercise tracking recognition that is built into the device. 

The Versa 3 and Sense both provide a battery life of almost a week that make up for the battery life with a quick charge feature where the watch can last a day with only 12 mins of charge. 

It features a built-in music player so you do not have to connect your phone to your speakers when running and performing your fitness activities. it also includes a notification so you do not have to reach for your phone when you are running and doing your workout.

Amazfit GTS 2

The GTS 2 is subtle compared to the overhauled GTR2 but can look the same to the untrained eye. It has a strong and light aluminium body rather than a plastic body giving it a solid feel around your wrist. 

A rotating crown adds to the design but is not functional for any features the watch has to offer. The 348 x 442 vibrant and alluring AMOLED display looks stunning on the watch with a 341 PPI density. 

A 20mm rubber strap provides a comfortable fit on the wrist and goes well with most sport attires keeping it simple, clean, and fashionable. If you like minimal design with excellent features the Amazfit GTS 2 is just that. 

Amazfit GTR 2

The Amazfit GTR 2 has come a long way from the previous versions and has adopted a 47mm model with a sleek and niche design. The sports edition comes in a strong aluminium case and the classic has a stainless steel case that you can get for an extra $20. 

The case is attached with a leather or silicone 22mm strap that you can choose as per your comfort with a pin mechanism to interchange among them. 

The leather strap looks great on business casuals and formal attire and the silicon felt comfortable for everyday use and exercise. 

A ceramic bezel highlights the GTR 2 vibrant screen which is, without doubt, one of the best displays I’ve seen on a smartwatch. It houses a 1.39 inch AMOLED touchscreen display that offers excellent viewing angles with sharpness and clarity. 

There are two physical buttons that are used to navigate to the main menu of the watch and can also behave as a shortcut to your health tracking apps. The body is completely waterproof for up to 50 meters which is perfect if you’re a swimmer and would like to track your daily progress. 

Fitbit Versa 3

The Versa 3 has owned the square watch look with curved edges and glass display that I feel gets its inspiration from the Apple Watch.

It comes with three different colour case variants to choose from which is complemented by a wide range of leather bands to go with. 

With the increase in size compared to the previous version Amazfit used the opportunity to house a bigger 1.58-inch AMOLED display that provides excellent clarity, sharpness and viewing angles. 

So now to the one thing we don’t really like about the Versa 3’s design. The missing button. Fitbit ditched the physical button it used previous Versas for something far more discreet.

It has a large 40mm sized thick casing that provides a solid feel and looks of a modern smartwatch. It has a waterproof body that can hold its own up to 50 meter’s depth.

Fitbit Sense

Sense has the same outer body case as the Fitbit Verse 3, which houses a large-high-quality 1.58-inch display. The 336×336 resolution provides vibrant, clear and crisp clarity that does look somewhat cramped into a 40.5mm casing. 

With the quick-change straps, you can easily interchange them for a customised look to go anything you are wearing into work or leisure. 

It has one single physical button on the left bezel that is used to navigate to the home screen which is a put down for the design. 

Winner: GTR 2 is the winner for its classy design and outer steel casing that provides a solid feel and look to the watch when compared to the others. It does feel the most sturdy among the lot, the easy pin mechanism to interchange bands help suit the watch to my daily attire better, be it casual or business formals. 

Screen Quality 

Amazfit GTS 2 – It has a vibrant 348 x 442 AMOLED display with a 341 PPI density, definitely one of the best screens that you can get in that price range of smartwatches. 

Amazfit GTR 2 – it has a 1,39-inch screen which is much larger than the GTS 2 screen making it more likeable by men than women. The 454 x 454 AMOLED touchscreen display provides crisp, clean and sharp images with multiple viewing angles that are visible even under direct sunlight.

Fitbit Versa 3 – it has a 1.58-inch AMOLED display with 336 x 336 resolution which is much bigger than the Amazfit GT series but lacks in terms of clarity because of the drop in resolution.

But it is a big improvement compared to its previous version. 

Fitbit Sense – It has a large 1.58-inch display the same size as the Versa 3 that is housed in a 40.5mm case. It offers a 336 x 336 resolution, which is better than Versa 3 and can be viewed from multiple angles.

Winner: It’s a tie between Amazfit GTR 2 and Fitbit Sense. Here’s why Amazfit offers a smaller display compared to the Fitbit series but makes it up with a higher resolution rate of 454 x 454 that adds to a clean crisp viewing experience. 

If the size doesn’t matter to you, Amazfit GTR2 is the winner for clarity. If you prefer a bigger screen the senses 1.58-inch display should do the job for you if you don’t mind the drop in clarity.

GTR 2 – it has a 471 mAh that takes about 2.5 hours for a full charge that gives you 14 days for normal daily. If you keep things simple and basic it can last up to 38 days, with all the features on throughout it can last 14 days.

Fitbit Versa 3 – Fitbit commits for 6-day battery life with all of its functions on. The new feature added to this version of Versa is the fast charging that gives you a full day’s battery life from 12 mins of charge. 

Fitbit Sense – Fitbit commits 6+ days of battery life with all function On for 24/7 including SpO2 checks at night. 

Winner – The Fitbit Sense wins this because of its fast-charge function, even if the battery life after a charge is less if it can charge in 12 mins to 40% from 2% is pretty worth it according to me. 

If you spend time away from the city the GTR 2 is for you as it can last 14 days without a charge with GPS and normal use. 

Amazfit App Vs Fitbit App

It’s safe to say that both brands are neck to neck with their physical and hardware attributes but what’s hardware if it doesn’t have sturdy apps to support the watches functionality. 

Fitbit app

The companion app of Fitbit available on all smartphones and also as a web app. Fitbit flaunts the design and stability of its app, it is user friendly and is clutter-free making it easy to get your workout data. The app also connected you to your friends and communities to share your fitness progress.

Zepp App formerly known as Amazfit

Zepp app acts as the place to keep a track of your health and fitness data and also to check your fitness activities like walking, running and cycling. Unfortunately, it does not allow you to download apps and watch face depends on the device you are using. 

Winner: Without Doubt, Fitbits App wins for its stability and overall user-friendly interface.

Heart Health –

Both the brands offer excellent heart rate based info using an optical light-based sensor. 

Fitbit is set to launch its medical-grade ECG sensor which is due in October which is a feature only the latest Apple watches have at present. 

Both brands have commendable heart rate sensor technology that can help detect signs of heart diseases. 

Amazfit does an excellent job of tracking your fitness during sports with its VO2 MAX, PAI Health Score and Training Load.

Winner: Tie (Amazfit is excellent for fitness tracking during sports and Fitbit is excellent for daily fitness tracking)  

Fitness tracking –

Both brands offer the option to view steps, ideal, and distance through their own motion sensor setup. None of the data from the two devices can be identical but the most accurate was given by Fitbit.

Truth be told, Huawei has a bit of a negative reputation since they got banned by the US Government. But they’ve still been able to make a name for themselves. My honest opinion is, Huawei makes the best hardware for their devices in the Android ecosystem. The Huawei products I’ve purchased on Aliexpress have always been solid.

Having said that I will still prefer to go with Xiaomi’s smartwatches as their ecosystem is bigger and they can build better software and connect to the Google Play Store.

Design

Both these smart watches have worn circular looks. The overall appearance will let anyone feel that they must have cost more.

The Huawei Watch GT 2e is touted as a sporty choice among the range of Huawei’s GT 2e. The 46mm case of this smart watch model is made from plastic and metal and are rendered in clack or stainless steel finish. Without the strap, the watch weighs 43 grams with a thickness of 10.8mm.     

The Mi Watch is slightly smaller in size measuring 45mm and the difference is not noticeable. The weight is however lighter than Huawei Watch GT 2e at 32g. The thickness of Mi Watch is 11.8mm. Mi provides this smart watch in four colors including black, red, green and white.

The looks of both these models are great. Huawei has incorporated some extra details on the bezel, while Xiaomi has chosen to keep it simple.  

Xiaomi Mi watch is a lighter option and you might not favor the GT 2e if you are concerned about its heaviness.

Drawing inspiration from the sporty bands of Apple, Huawei has fitted its smart watch with TPU or fluroelastomer strap. Xiaomi has resorted to the basic design for the strap using a TPU band with a simple pin.

In both these devices many users say the heart rate tracking for high intensity exercise is not up to the mark and hence this needs to be remedied by using an external chest strap monitor. 

With regard to data sharing, Huawei enables data sharing on Apple Health and Google Fit. With the entry of third party developers, Huawei can probably improve this segment significantly in the coming years.

Huawei Watch GT 2e provides the basic notifications, a remote smartphone camera shutter mode, a plethora of watch faces, controls for music playback, a built-in music player for Android phones and a 4GB storage. You can view weather forecasts and set alarms on this watch. 

Excepting the music player, the Mi Watch also does majority of these things. In addition, an interesting feature of this model is the smart assistant Amazon Alexa that can work on Bluetooth connection on your phone.

The AMOLED display is quite breath taking and the colours are extremely rich. The battery life is quite admirable for a watch of this caliber. It can last easily for 20 odd days. Two weeks is an absolute guarantee.

Although it looks quite professional and formal, it is a sporty watch that can be used in a swimming pool, thanks to the 5ATM rating.

It’s got about 10 sports modes, which isn’t extensive, but it works. It’s got a really accurate heart rate monitor and the users will enjoy the tracking mechanism called Firstbeat which measures different parameters of your health & performance while working out and share those data points.

Amazfit Bip U

For the longest time, I had the Bip S series. It was my beater smartwatch, which meant, I could knock it here and there without getting fazed. The Bip series from Amazfit is pretty awesome.

The Bip U is around the $60 range. It resembles the Apple Watch, which a lot of people like. Even the bands that come with it are colorful and quite catchy. This is a super cheap Apple Watch alternative.

It’s got a big 1.43-inch color display with over 50 watch faces to choose from. Some of these watch faces are animated, they look cool, but also drain the battery like nothing can. It fits quite well and weighs only 31 grams.

The watch face can be customized to add the options you want to see. The main highlight of this watch is the 60 incredible watch faces. There are sports modes that help you lose fat and test your heart rate. You can also measure your blood oxygen levels which is quite important in these times.

One of the under-rated Xiaomi smartwatches in the market.

Redmi Band

The Redmi brand from Xiaomi has been only used for the Redmi phone series and for the first time, the ‘Redmi’ series launches a smart band. The Redmi Band is cheaper than the Redmi Band and is an alternative to the Mi Band series.

The Mi Band’s design is different, having a rectangular shape compared to the long oval of the Mi Band series.It has a 0.95-inch AMOLED display.

It uses the latest Bluetooth 5.0 standard to connect with smartphones. It’s got the typical smart band features such as heart rate monitor, activity tracker and so on.

It’s meant to be the cheapest smart watch band option in the world and it doesn’t boast of the features that the Mi Band has.

If you are looking for ultra-budget, this is the one to go for.

The Amazfit Verge is on top of my list because of its overall performance. If you are looking for an all-rounder that not only looks good but has amazing features, this smartwatch ticks all the boxes. 

The watch has an AMOLED display, a silicone band along with a polycarbonate body. The size of the watch s 43mm and is available in multiple colors too. When it comes to fitness tracking, this smartwatch offers the best-in-class features. 

The Verge has a five days battery life in smartwatch mode and up to 34 days in the basic watch mode. The Bip by Amazfit is second on my list for the value it gives your buck. If you want an amazing smartwatch that doesn’t set you back on budgets, this is the one for you. The Bip comes with a polycarbonate body and an always-on transflective display which makes reading easy even in harsh sunlight. 

Well, you may miss the AMOLED display but for the price range, you get much more. The battery for example is impressive, to say the least.

The Amazfit Bip by Xiaomi has a battery that lasts up to 45 days and it lasts up to four months in standby mode and up to 22 hours in GPS mode. The Bip is dustproof and water-resistant and has multiple sports modes that include, running, walking, treadmill running, outdoor walking, and cycling.

The Stratos 3 by Amazfit is fourth on my list as this is a smartwatch built for professionals. If you are an athlete or a professional sportsperson, this is the best smartwatch you can get in the market right now.

The stainless steel body paired with a reinforced plastic has a 22mm changeable silicone band that can handle extreme sports.  You can use the 1.34-inch transflective touch display or the four side buttons to use the features on your watch based on your preference. 

Powered with a seven-day battery smartwatch mode, you get to choose from three GPS modes depending on the activity you are involved in. The watch also has music storage, 5ATM water resistance, and Wi-Fi connectivity. 

With 80 sports modes, you can also track your fitness level, recovery time, and the training load. The Stratos 3 is designed to improve an athlete’s performance over time and though the size may be an issue for a few. The features make do for it.

Xiaomi’s Amazfit range of watches is truly worth buying in terms of quality and pricing. I would recommend the Amazfit Verge for most of you as it has the best in class features. If you are a beginner, I would recommend the Amazfit Bip or the Verge Lite. You can always update your smartwatch based on your activity levels as you please.
