Banking

Banking brands in China make up a good chunk of the top 100 brands, holding 22 percent of the total brand value compared to only 6 percent from firms in other industries. It’s no surprise considering that Chinese banks have been more resilient than their global counterparts across sectors. 

That’s thanks to the fact that China has been handling its own business such as asset management, wealth management, and inter-banking payments, as well as ramping up investments into digitalization over the past few years.

Though there’s been a 10% drop in brand value to 72.8 billion dollars, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) has maintained its hold as the most valuable bank brand in China and has marked the 3rd spot on a global scale. 

As the largest bank in China, they have managed to do well with Chinese citizens despite a drop in brand value thanks to the fall out of its investments that stemmed from depreciating global interest rates.

It’s important for Chinese citizens to figure out how best to rebuild their savings for future generations because now is an uncertain time for banks everywhere! 

For example, China Construction bank (CCB) dropped 5% in 2021 down to 9.6 billion USD and the Agricultural Bank of China (ABC) managed to plummet by 3% to 53.1 billion USD. Two other major banks, the Bank of China and China Merchants Bank also had to deal with a drop in value by 4% and 8% respectively.

Tech

China’s tech industry has been growing at a pace like never before with a number of brands such as Xiaomi, Lenovo, Tencent, Huawei and even Baidu making the top 100. 

Huawei continues to retain the second spot as the most valuable tech brand to invest in 2022. They are up to 71.2 billion USD this year and saw its highest growth despite the blacklist from the American market. With new changes being made and AI as a primary focus, Huawei will remain as one of the most valuable tech companies in China.

Video gaming giant Tencent Holdings surged 33.4% in the overall market amounting to 280 billion USD and search engine operator Baidu Inc increased in value by 39.2% to 42.2 billion USD.

The tech sector in China will continue to see substantial growth over the next two quarters, with new launches and futuristic products making an appearance in the market. 

Pharmaceutical

In what was an impressive year for the Chinese pharmaceutical industry, the increasing demand for healthcare in China has seen brand values rise by a staggering 123%. 

The sector’s brands have successfully responded to the nation’s health emergency, with new corporations and entities entering into this year’s list of the most valuable Chinese companies and making significant contributions. This means that these pharmaceutical brands have achieved solid performances across the board and will continue to see a rise in value.

China’s Sinopharm is the leading brand in the world and is worth a massive 3.2 billion USD , but only recently developed China’s COVID-19 vaccine, which although costing less than other top vaccines, has a high efficacy rate. This product has had over two million doses delivered since the start of the pandemic, and the brand is targeting an even bigger market share this year.

Guangzhou Pharmaceuticals and S.P.H are named the second and third most valuable pharma brands in China with an increase of 74% to 1.5 billion USD and 50% to 1.4 billion USD respectively. 

E-Commerce/Shopping

Retail, online supermarkets in particular, were a resounding success over the second and third quarters of last fiscal year. Massive demand caused by the pandemic has allowed brands to experience unprecedented growth in revenue as consumers resorted to online means of shopping. 

The retail sector is regularly fast-paced and dynamic and today a total of 17 brands make up 10% of China’s overall economy. Currently, e-Commerce and retail share the fourth spot with an annual growth of 54% when compared to 2020.

The top four e-commerce brands in China; Taobao, Tmall, Alibaba.com and JD.com, all saw positive brand value growth over the last year. The industry’s leading platform, Taobao (worth 53.3 billion USD), has broken into the top 10 list for the first time since its inception following a 44% quarter-on-quarter growth in its overall value. 

Alibaba.com’s brand value has been boosted by a staggering 108% to 39.2 billion USD, simultaneously propelling the brand from 22^nd to 13^th – spot on the list of the most valuable Chinese brands as a result of a huge spike in demand. The story is similar for JD.com, which has witnessed an 82% increase in its value to 23.5 billion USD, following a 30% rise in its annual shopper count, which is the fastest we’ve seen it rise in over two years.

There’s no doubt that the online shopping industry will carry on to see exponential growth in the next two quarters and 2022 will easily supersede 2021 by a mile with newer brands taking the mantle.

Media

The shift from analog to an online social life has been vital in making this possible, with millions of Chinese consumers now shifting their attention towards domestic digital media groups. Media is currently the third most valuable sector in China, with 35 brands accounting for 10% of the total brand value. 

WeChat is currently the most valuable brand in all of China. This is significant as it illustrates how much people value and appreciate the importance of this social media platform and messaging app. 

Douyin/TikTok is one of the latest apps to enjoy a boom in China. Basically, anyone can post and share videos or dance to whatever music they like with an audience on Douyin/TikTok. Since China’s population is so massive, that makes for an enormous market for any business trying to promote itself via video posts. 

One of the major factors driving advertising revenue is how closely the app correlates data about trending topics within its community with what brands need taught inexpensively. Apart from TikTok and WeChat, other video sharing apps have seen an increase in demand and a rise in brand value. 

Brands such as Bilibili and 37 Games shot up by 106% to 1.9 billion USD and by 85% to 1.4 billion USD respectively. Which is not something unexpected considering millions of individuals had time on their hands thanks to Covid restrictions and recurring lockdowns.

Infrastructure

With a boom in population and need for cleaner energy, Chinese infrastructure brands have not shown any significant dip in value and have actually managed to retain their positions on the list. 

State Grid, China’s utilities giant only saw a drop of 3% overall brand value, but has retained the number 1 position as the most valuable utilities brand the  world has ever seen. They are considered to be the 6th most valuable Chinese brand that helps supply power to well over 88% of China’s population.

They are heading in the right direction and have outlined a plan to support China’s clean energy drive that was kicked off by President Xi Jinping. The drive is to make China completely carbon neutral by 2060 and to replace energy from fossil fuels with solar, hydro and wind.

In terms of real estate, the field has seen a 7% increase in value as compared to last year with Evergrande leading the real estate market with a value of 20.2 billion USD, which is roughly a 2% drop in value from the previous year. 

The same goes for construction brands that have seen an impressive growth of 16% collectively. 

Brands such as CRECG, CRCC, CSCEC and CNBM all saw massive increase in value over 2021 with CREG (China Railway Engineering Equipment Group) up by 32% to 14.9 billion USD, CRCC (China Railway Construction Corporation) up by 21% to 15.9 billion USD, CSCEC (China State Construction Engineering Corporation) up by 22% to 30.4 billion USD and CNBM (China National Building Material) with an increase of 22% to 7.1 billion USD.

Despite the pandemic, none of these brands have shown any signs of slowing down and have been key supporters of the rise in brand value across sectors.Without infrastructure, everything would fall apart.

Though the brand has become popular around the world in recent years, most of their company information is secret to the public and it’s near impossible to find anything pertaining to their work practices and finances online.

However, I was able to find out that Shein has a number of suppliers from whom they source their clothes and a majority of their inventory originates from China with a few manufacturing hubs setup in South Asia.

So if you’ve ever wondered “where does Shein get their clothes from“, read on to find out everything I was able to uncover and then decide for yourself whether or not this fast fashion brand is your cup of tea.

Where Does Shein Get Their Clothes From?

It’s been over 13 years since Shein has been in the market and they have expanded their portfolio from cheap wedding dresses to cover pretty much the entire apparel and accessories category. 

From what I could learn, the answer to our question is quite simple. 

Where are Shein Clothes Made?

Shein initially used to have ties with a couple of manufacturers from the Guangzhou district in China, which is  one of the largest hubs for ready made apparel. Thanks to their founder, Chris Xu, the company developed a steady supply chain by tying up with different manufacturers and suppliers for their clothes.

Now, Shein has a team of over 800 vendors who mass produce clothes for them with a strict turnaround time of 10 days. New designs are created everyday at Shein and the concepts are then sent to these manufacturing chains to have the clothes made in bulk.

This is why they are able to deliver fast fashion to well over 200 countries around the world at throw away prices.

Shein has also roped in two new factories that will mass produce clothes for the brand. One is located in Sri Lanka whereas the other is in Bangladesh which just so happens to be the second largest producer of clothes for big brands such as GAP, Calvin Klein, Armani, Ralph Lauren and H&M like after China.

Does Shein Design Their Own Clothes?

As a matter of fact, yes, Shein does design their own clothes. Though this wasn’t the case during their initial days where the brand used to source ready made clothes from a wholesale market in Guangzhou, China.

It’s also true that Shein makes predictions on trends and mass produces items within a short span of time after identifying a new trend which is why many of Shein’s clothes resemble new fashion wear from other top brands.

Who Makes Shein Clothes?

Based on my recent findings, most of Sheins manufacturing partners are based in the Guangzhou district and some of them are also listed on Alibaba as Shein manufacturers or suppliers. 

These manufacturers are an integral part fo Shein’s supply chain and they produce clothes and accessories in bulk based on the designs and schematics provided by Shein’s design team.

Here are a few of their primary clothing suppliers I was able to come across.

Quanzhou Youfan Import and Export Trading Company

From Fujian, China, this company primarily supplies sportswear, women’s apparel, socks and caps to Shein.

Quanzhou Zhoushang Trading Co.

This manufacturer is also based out of Fujian, China and are the main suppliers of women’s innerwear, yoga clothes, women’s t-shirts and pants.

Zhejiang New Joys Trading Co., Ltd.

If you’ve ever wondered where Shein sweaters are made, this company is behind it all. They specialize in blazers, women’s sweaters, coats and other knitted wear.

Dongguan Wojieya Clothing Co., Ltd. 

A recent addition to the Shein manufacturers list, this company provides Shein with most of their shirts, t-shirts, dresses, one-pieces and even coats.

Quanzhou Yongchun Yuxin Trading Co., Ltd.

Based in China, Quanzhou Yongchun Yuxin Trading Co., Ltd. specializes in mass producing high quality jumpsuits, co-ord sets and even dresses.

Hangzhou Kuai Garment Factory

If you’re wondering who makes most of the jeans, shirts and jackets then the Hangzhou Kuai Garment Factory is the one to check out today. They even specialize in dresses and the overall quality is amazing.

These are only a few of the many thousands of small manufacturers the brand is currently partnered with, to manufacture high quality clothes and accessories at cheap prices and in a timely manner. 

As of 2023, Shein has tied up with factories in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to produce clothes such as jeans and dresses. These manufacturing facilities will be a part of the Shein Global network and serve countries worldwide.

How Does Shein Choose Their Manufacturers and Suppliers?

While not known to many, Shein chooses the manufacturers and suppliers based on their quality, low manufacturing costs and fast turnaround times. It’s the only reason why the brand is able to cope with the new trends and at the same time, keep costs low.

This is one strategy Shein has followed since its inception, which has made it the number one fast fashion brand in the world.

Manufacturers and suppliers must be willing to adhere to a strict turnaround time of 10 days and to deliver high quality apparel and accessories at cheap rates and only if they can deliver, will there be a partnership between the two. 

But while it all looks good on the outside, in order to meet their agreed target,  I did notice that there are a number of trade malpractices that occur at these manufacturing plants that leaves Shein at the center of controversy.

How Are Shein Clothes Made?

The clothes sold on Shein are manufactured in bulk and are then shipped across the world in record time. 

From what I understood, the process they follow is first create a design within 1-2 days and then share that design with the manufacturer who in turn will produce the clothes in bulk and ship them back to Shein within a maximum time frame of 10 days. 

These clothes are then put through a couple of tests to check the quality and are then sent to various warehouses around the world. 

The manufacturing process varies depending on the type of clothing so it can take anywhere from 4-5 days to make simple t-shirts whereas complex pieces of clothing like dresses, blouses and wedding gowns may take between 7-10 days to be produced in bulk.

However, to make sure the deadlines are met, employees in these manufacturing units are treated badly and are made to work for up to 75 hours a week for minimal pay, as reported by the Swiss watchdog group ‘Public Eye’.

Are The Clothes Supplied To Shein Safe to Wear?

Shein was in the spotlight late last year when a number of their jackets were to be recalled as Canadian health authorities suspected that they contained dangerously high levels of lead and other chemicals making them unsafe to wear for children and adults.

There have been many other instances like this where the brand has been called out for using harmful chemicals such as organotins, phthalates and antimony in their products, well above the government regulated limits. 

They have since taken those products off the shelves, but where did they originate from and why were they up for sale in the first place?

The root cause is the suppliers themselves. In order to mass produce at the rate they’re asked to, suppliers must cut corners and to do this they tend to use chemicals to speed up the process. 

For example, to make polyester, the supplier will cut the mix using antimony and they can go to the extent of using more than the legal limit. Using too much antimony can lead to skin irritation and breathing problems which is why they get deemed unsafe to wear.

But since the screening process is lax, as with most Chinese companies, products do go through the QC check and are sold in the open market. 

However, this is not the case with all the clothes sold on Shein and it only happens once in a blue moon which got me thinking that it could possibly be just simple human error and not a deliberate act.

Are Shein clothes made with child labor?

They have clearly stated that they distance themselves from practices like child labor and from we can tell, there has been no evidence regarding the use of child labor directly or indirectly with the brand.

How many items are added to Shein every month?

Based on numbers back in 2021, Shein added as many as 2,000 new SKU’s on a daily basis which translates to roughly 60,000 new items added every month.

Where is Shein located?

Shein’s headquarters is based in China, but they have a number of offices and fulfillment centers in different parts of the world. Their second largest hub is based in New Jersey, USA, where their American hub is located.

Why was my Shein order shipped from Florida and not China?

Orders are normally fulfilled by the nearest warehouse or fulfillment center and if the item is not available in the nearest warehouse, then and only then will it get shipped from China. 

Can I get in touch with Shein manufacturers to source from directly?

Yes, you can get in touch with Shein manufacturers, but it is rather difficult to get a response from some, especially if you’re overseas. Since nearly all of Shein’s suppliers are based in China, it’s easier to get in touch with them by attending trade shows, checking on social media, and through old school online research.

Since they are into retail and are not manufacturers, the brand makes the designs and relies on its vendors to produce clothes for them in bulk. 

These Chinese manufacturers provide good quality clothes at affordable prices and this is why they are so cheap to buy.

Viral Tiktok Home and Kitchen Products That are Worth It!

Toss and Chop Salad Shears

The first product I came across while binging on Tiktok for home and kitchen products was this pair of super cool kitchen shears. I love my salads and rather than ordering in, I prefer to make my own salad at home. So once I saw this product, I knew it was meant for me. 

Tiktoker Stevie Moon also known as @iamsteviemoon is well known for her cooking hacks and some of the devices he uses in her videos are simply remarkable. One such video of his showcased this pair of kitchen shears designed for salads.

She shows us how easy it is to use and how these shears can allow you to cut leafy greens into bite-sized portions without the need of a knife or chopping board. 

I tried out the toss and chop salad shears and it was extremely easy and efficient to use. The handle is made from a soft PVC rubber material and the blades are self-sharpening meaning they don’t have to be maintained regularly. They have literally cut down the time it normally takes for me to make my salad in half and is honestly one of the best finds of this year.

The Little Green Portable Spot and Stain Cleaner

Cleaning the house, especially sofas and carpets has never been easier thanks to the little green spot and stain remover. I first came across this highly portable device on @graceface_x’s Tiktok account and in the video she shows how well it can clean and lift away dirt and stains from carpets and upholstered couches in record time.

When I picked up the little green spot and stain cleaner, I was surprised at how compact it actually is. The device can easily be carried and does not weigh much, making it all the more easier to use. 

It’s equipped with a 1400m suction that sticks to the surface of any upholstered furniture and did all the work for me. There’s a removable water tank at the top that stores the perfect amount of water and the best part is it doesn’t leak and add to the misery. 

Trust me when I say this, the before and after effect from using this cleaner is so satisfying that I’d recommend buying one for yourself. However, the cleaner does cost a bit much and not everyone will be willing to pay over $100 to get their hands on one.

Clear Museum Gel for Glass Ornaments

I never once thought that I’d ever have to buy clear museum gel, but when I saw Tiktokers using it to keep their glassware and ornaments in place, I picked up a bunch and life has never been the same since then.

Though it’s made specifically for glass and crystal, the museum gel can be used for pretty much anything as shown by Tiktoker @notwhismic who uses it to secure more than just glass ornaments in the video.

I found the gel to be super effective and once it’s used to stick objects in place, they don’t fall even during an earthquake and the one thing I truly liked about this product is that not only is it reusable and non-toxic, but the gel does not stain your furniture.

A Star Projector for the Bedroom

Now, i’m assuming we’ve all seen these bedroom projectors that turn any room into a starry sky and the first place I happened to come across one was Tiktok. I remember scrolling through one day and coming across a video where @rebekkablue was showing off her new projector.

The device is compact and can sit on any flat surface. It creates a soothing and intricate version of the galaxy and the one thing that stood out to me was that it is equipped with a remote that can change the aurora effects as well as change the motion.

Though I don’t use the projector quite often, i’d like to note that it comes with a night timer that can be set to turn on and off at hourly intervals and the built-in speaker is a bonus because it can play sounds stored on a memory card while the projector is turned on.

Toothbrush Station for the Bathroom

@meganbrittany85 is a popular Tiktoker who creates videos on useful products you can find online. One of her videos that stood out to me was this toothbrush station and trust me when I say this, it’s a godsend.

It’s a sanitary device that sits on the wall in the bathroom and can hold up to five toothbrushes and two tubes of toothpaste along with up to 4 rinse cups. I will never get over how amazing this device truly is.

Not only does it keep my toothbrushes clean and protected from germs, but it is also easy to install, clean and adds to the aesthetic of my bathroom. I guess i’ll never have to store my toothbrushes in a mug or have to worry about dirtying the sink bowl with toothpaste ever again.

6-Outlet Extender

There has been a lot of talk about this extender, not because it’s small and has a night light built right into it, but because it’s super efficient and can handle even big power bricks with ease. 

I got a chance to see this bad boy in action on Tiktok and @christianfinds showed us how easy it is to install and use.

I liked that the extender not only minimizes the need for extension boxes, but it’s also so well designed that I picked up 3 for my house and have positioned one in each room to use for all my devices. 

There’s even one in the kitchen because it can support the load from my microwave and fridge.

Now there’s no need for tangled wires or wires running all over the place. I simply have everything plugged into one outlet and it has worked really well for me over the last couple of months.

Spin Mops to Clean the House

For those looking to make cleaning the house an easier task than before, I have to recommend that you buy the spin mop, or as they’re more commonly called “magic mop”. 

These have been around for a while and though i’ve come across them in malls, it’s one of those products that I can say “Tiktok made me buy it”.

When I watched @keepitsimplesparkles on Tiktok I got to see a real life demonstration of the spin mop. 

She uses it to clean the entire house in not more than 10 minutes and considering that i’m someone who hates cleaning or mopping, the video showed me how easy it is to clean the house in no time and have even the smallest speck of dirt wiped away. 

Moreover, the whole spinning feature makes it fun to use and I now don’t have to strain my back anymore trying to get smudges and dirt off the ground.

Silicone Drain Protectors for the Sink

The next product I found on Tiktok does a decent job at keeping my kitchen sink, bathtub and drains unclogged. Silicone drain protectors help prevent strands or clumps of hair from entering the drain pipe and clogging it. 

It literally blocks anything from entering the drain, but it does have a number of drain holes through which water can flow. It’s easy to use and requires very little maintenance as shown by @ourfavoritefinds on Tiktok.

While this product is not easily available in regular hardware stores, the internet is flooded with different versions of the design. 

One thing I did notice is that the holes of the protector are not fine enough to block every strand of hair and you might notice a couple of strands fall through which is still decent for the price.

Using Tiktok has made me blow money on things I may not need, but the second I came across this rad laser keyboard, I simply knew that I had to have one. As shown by @teresalauracaruso, this tiny gadget can project a laser keyboard on any surface and she then uses it to type messages on her smartphone and tablet.

Thanks to @kelseyvenkov, i’m now able to slice and dice vegetables and dry fruits in record time. The hand powered vegetable chopper that she uses is a compact plastic bowl with a removable blade and a pulley handle on the lid.

I always thought smart notebooks are a thing of the future and no one would have been able to produce one that actually works. But when I saw a video on Tiktok from @findswithkayla, my jaw dropped to the floor.

It’s a revolutionary product that is priced under $30 on Amazon and the best feature about the notebook is that it connects to the cloud, so everything you handwrite on its pages get converted to text and can be sent to your Email, Dropbox, Google Drive and even iCloud. 

Once I was done taking notes, I simply erased the contents of the notebook and everything I wrote was safely stored in an online drive, to be accessed at a later date.

Electric USB Lighter

I never thought it would be this easy to maintain a lighter considering I’ve lost well over 100 lighters so far. This rather handy USB powered device fits right in the pocket and can be used all around the house without ever having to refill it with gas.

As @mommac_ shows us in the video, simply plug it into a USB port and when the battery is charged, press the button on the side of the hilt to ignite the lighter. For under $17, this happens to be the one item that I now carry around everywhere I go, and the plus side is it’s waterproof.

Water Bottle with Time Marker

It is essential to drink water regularly and keep the body hydrated. However, I did not know that I was supposed to drink water at regular intervals. But then I saw the Arcana water bottle with a time marker on @itslaurenalexandria’s profile and knew I needed to get one for myself.

The bottle looks like any regular water bottle, but along the sides are markers that specify how much water I am supposed to consume and at what frequency. I mean, it’s a really handy product especially for someone who is looking for ways to track their fluid intake for the day.

Skincare Mini Fridge

Who would have thought that there’d be mini fridges designed for skin care products? I didn’t until I came across this skincare mini fridge on Tiktok. Though the one I saw in @theskincarelab’s video was not available at the time of writing this article, I did find one from a brand called Cooluli on Amazon for a cool $50.

The mini fridge is not as small as I thought it would be. In fact it’s big enough to hold makeup essentials as well as a couple of Monster Energy cans and it’s available in over 6 colors (I ended up buying the blue one because it’s my favorite color).

Easy-to-Use Apple Corer

I’ve always loved my fruits and at times I tend to give up on eating apples because of the core. I knew corers existed, but never bothered to buy one until I watched @tillbate de-core an Apple in seconds on Tiktok.

Now, I eat an Apple a day and life’s never been better. The device is quite cool actually. As shown in the video, simply hold the tip of the corer on the top of the Apple and press down and pull the Apple’s core out. It’s a fast way to make juice or cut slices without seeds and that other funky stuff that’s there in the middle.

Flower Soap Dispenser

Probably one of the cutest Tiktok approved products that i found was this pump action flower soap dispenser. Tiktok celeb @Jushy posted a video of him using the Mykirei flower soap dispenser and boy did it look fun to use!

At the top of the dispenser is a pump and based on the video, the creator simply presses his palm down and lifts it up to reveal this well-defined foam in the shape of a flower. I also happened to come across another one from the same brand, but instead of flowers, the foam was in the shape of a paw print.

Takeaway

Tiktok has always been my one source of entertainment, but after discovering these amazing budget friendly products, I’m sure that I will spend more time scrolling through the app in hopes of finding something new and interesting.

My feed was filled with videos on cleaning hacks and that got me thinking, do they really work? And if so, are they as effective as they are shown to be? 

So, my inquisitive mind decided to try these hacks out first hand and see whether or not they actually work. 

Now I’m pretty sure you’re already familiar with the oven cleaner hack where you can clean a pan using an oven cleaner spray without any water or dish liquid. But did you know that using oven cleaner spray on a pan can actually cause the Teflon coating to fade? 

Yup, most Tiktok hacks do have a fair share of drawbacks and while these tricks may seem to work well in the start, chances are that some of them may fail miserably and won’t work as shown. 

Below are some of the most trending Tiktok cleaning hacks I came across. I’ve tried and tested each and every single one of them to see whether or not they work and if they can potentially damage whatever it is I’m cleaning.

Trending Tiktok Cleaning Hacks – Do They Really Work?

Washing the Shower with a Dishwashing Wand

Now, I found the “washing the shower with a dishwashing wand” hack to be fun to do. 

Hack : The hack involves filling a dishwashing wand with a little vinegar and dish soap and scrubbing the shower daily to stop soap scum or stains from building up.

My Experience : It’s a good hack that works wonders and a plus point is that it’s easy to pull off. Using this hack while in the shower gives me something to do while i’m waiting for the shampoo or conditioner to do its thing.

The vinegar also helps keep bacteria from building up around the corners and the mix can even be used on the glass walls (if you have a cubicle shower like I do).

Long Term Review : While this trick works and there’s nothing negative I have to say about it, the vinegar in the solution can cause tiled surfaces to lose their shine.

Make sure the tiled surface has either a matte finish or try using the dishwashing wand without adding vinegar to the solution.

Degrease your Faucet with a Zip Lock Bag

I’ve got 4 bathrooms at home and around 6 faucets in total, so cleaning them can be a pain. This hack I found proved to be one of the most effective hacks out there to clean faucets and don’t tell anyone, but it can be used to clean taps and even showerheads.

Hack : The video goes to show a hack to remove dirt from your faucet by soaking it in a zip lock bag filled with vinegar and then wrapping it around the faucet head for an hour only to reveal a shiny and muck-free faucet at the end.

My Experience : I know that vinegar has a lot of cleaning benefits and I knew that this hack might just work. So I tried it with one faucet and soaked it in vinegar and wrapped the zip lock bag around the faucet head with a rubber band to keep it in place.

After one hour, I removed the bag and the faucet was free from hard water stains and dry dirt. 

Long Term Review : This hack is good only if you want to get rid of lime deposits on chromed and metallic things.

If the faucet, tap or showerhead is made from plastic, use a good quality descaler instead with water and a soft cloth to clean it.

Clean your Garbage Disposal Unit with Ice Cubes

Here’s another hack I happened to come across that piqued my interest. I currently own the Moen Host series garbage disposal unit and boy is it a task to clean. I mean it gets all slimy and nasty after a point that I struggle to get it back to its former glory.

Hack : The hack involves filling the sink with ice cubes and running the garbage disposal while cold water is flowing through. Based on the video I watched, the chute will get clogged up and after a while it will shoot out a chunk of a slimy substance which I presume to be the dirt and grime that’s collected over the months.

My Experience : I’m not entirely sure how people come up with hacks like these that actually work. I mean, I filled the sink with a lot of ice cubes and turned on the tap as shown in the video. I then proceeded to turn on the garbage disposal unit and waited for a couple of minutes.

Once all the ice was crushed, I saw that it did not spit out a lot of gunk like what was shown on the video, but yes, it did clean the blades and left it smelling better than before. 

Long Term Review : While ice and water can clean the disposal units chute, it does not stop bacteria from collecting in the garbage disposal unit. To thoroughly clean the unit, my suggestion will be to use a cap of bleach with water and pour that down the chute after cleaning it with the ice and water.

Turn on the disposal unit to thoroughly clean its inside. I wouldn’t recommend using bleach with ice because it will splash and you could get bleach in your eyes.

Steam Cleaning Furniture with Pine-Sol

I was lucky enough to come across this hack while doing my usual summer cleaning. So i thought why not give it a go and see what it’s all about.

Hack : This hack deals with cleaning upholstered furniture by using a damp microfiber cloth and some Pine-Sol multi surface cleaner. Based on the video, they use the cloth to wipe away stains and dirt on the upholstered sofa and it appears to work.

My Experience : I have an old leather sofa set at home that’s begging to be cleaned, so I followed the steps in the video word for word and used the microfiber cloth to clean away the stains. It was bad! Like truly bad!

The smell of Pine-Sol was a bit too overpowering and made me sick to my stomach and the stains remained on the sofa even though I rubbed it hard in a circular motion as shown in the video.

Long Term Review : This hack does not work as intended and causes respiratory issues. In fact there’s a warning on the Pine-Sol bottle that I totally forgot to check that stated “exposure to heated vapor or mist can irritate the respiratory tract”.

I would recommend not using Pine-Sol to clean your upholstered furniture and to instead find a safe to use carpet cleaner or leather cleaner that is safe to use or inhale.

The Colorful Toilet Overload

Here’s another hack I came across on Tiktok, it’s one of the most popular trends on the app and because of how colorful it is, many people are trying it out at home. 

Hack : The video for this hack shows the user pouring multiple cleaning liquids down the toilet to apparently give it the ultimate cleanup. This has resulted in a colorful bowl and actually ends up getting clean at the end, but is it safe to do?

My Experience : I will not recommend this hack to anyone simply because it’s too dangerous and can cause a number of health related issues.

Mixing toilet cleaners is a big no-no and the resulting fumes and mix can turn corrosive and at times kill you.

Long Term Review : If you’re keen on having a colorful toilet bowl to flaunt on your next tiktok video, i’d recommend first washing your toilet using a single toilet cleaner in the prescribed manner and then immersing one of those small colorful bath bombs and watch the magic unfurl.

Whatever you do, never mix different chemicals in a room with little to no ventilation.

Fabric Softener to Clean the Walls

I’ve heard of this one, though not a favorite of mine, it does have some benefits to it.

Hack : This hack dealt with washing the walls of a room with fabric softener and water. The end result in the video was a clean surface with no stains whatsoever.

My Experience : I tried using 1 cup of fabric softener with 3 cups of water in a spray bottle and sprayed the toilet walls and kitchen walls with it.

I then wiped it down with a soft cloth and though the walls smelt great, it did not clean the wall thoroughly and there were still stains left behind.

Long Term Review : If you happen to use fabric softener and water to wash your walls then you might have noticed that fabric softener tends to stick to the surface and over a period of time, dust collects on the surface because it gets stuck to the remnants of the softener.

It’s better to use a blend of vinegar and water in equal parts to effectively clean a wall. Again, do not use vinegar on a tiled or marble wall as you’d have to polish the surface to regain its shine.

Cleaning Pots and Pans with Oven Cleaner

If you’re like me then chances are that you’ve probably burnt a pan or two over the years and getting rid of the scorched marks can prove to be difficult.

Hack : A video went around a couple of months ago where a tiktok user used a heavy-duty oven cleaner called Easy Off to clean a burnt pan. They simply sprayed on the cleaner and left the pan aside so the cleaner takes effect. Once done, they rinse the pan with running water and most of the burnt bits that were stuck to the pan came off.

My Experience : I tried this hack the moment I came across it and noticed that it does work to remove burnt bits from the surface of the pan.

But when I tried it the third time, I noticed that the Teflon coating on the pan was beginning to fade and the pan was getting ruined.

Long Term Review : I recommend using this hack only on old pans that have a lot of scorched areas around it. If you want an alternative to using oven cleaner, try using a mix of baking soda, water and vinegar and soak the pan for 30 minutes before wiping it down.

This will get rid of any stains or burnt bits that are stuck to the pan and you won’t damage its protective Teflon coating.

Takeaway

While not every Tiktok hack works, there are some that work better than others. I was able to try them out at home and found some to be quite stupid whereas others were actually truly helpful at getting the job done. 

Others like the colorful toilet overload are plain stupid and should not be tried even if it’s for clickbait. 

I’d recommend sticking to the regular safe-to-use household products like baking soda, water, dish soap and vinegar to clean a wide range of items around the house. Trust me, they’ve worked for me and I’m sure they will for you.

I came across a bunch of beauty and makeup hacks on TikTok and some of them really blew my mind. 

From using socks to curl your hair to Bobby pins to create a perfect winged eyeliner, these hacks showed us how to save money the right way. 

But there are some hacks that really do not work and I happened to come across an incident where an Australian TV personality was left nearly blind in one eye after she tried a physiotherapy hack she learnt on TikTok.

So, to break the ice and clear the air, we decided to give a couple of these beauty hacks a try and see whether the hype was really worth it.

Today, I’m going to talk about 8 of the most viral Tiktok beauty hacks and see whether they work or not. 

Be warned, not everything you see on the internet is going to work and when it comes to your daily beauty regimen, it’s best to first consult a dermatologist before attempting to recreate what you see online.

Backward Makeup Hack

The first viral beauty hack I came across, that turned out to be one of our favorites, is the reverse or backward makeup hack. 

According to Tiktok creator – @aselbbh, the right way to apply makeup is by switching things up and not following the regular routine. In the video, she goes on to apply her makeup in the reverse order by first applying a moisturizer, setting powder, setting spray and then tops it off with some foundation.

The hack does work but the results depend on your skin type and the amount of makeup you use on a daily basis. When we tried applying setting spray over setting powder, we ended up with patchy makeup that looked ugly. 

Disney Princess Curls Hack with Socks

I found this hack to be pretty useful considering I’m someone who doesn’t have loads of time on my hands to keep curling my hair everyday. 

The Disney princess curls hack as shown by @allisinnkayyy, is easy to pull off and is meant to be done at night, right before going to bed. In the video, she shows us that by using 4 long socks, anyone can get princess-like soft curls without the need of heat. Simply twist the socks around sections of hair and fasten them in place using a couple of hair ties. In the morning, brush the hair out gently and voila, perfect soft curls.

Now, we tried this hack out and are happy to say that it does in fact work. It minimizes the amount of time it takes to curl hair using a curling iron and is actually a great way to curl hair without using any heating appliance.

De-Puffing with a Cold Spoon

De-puffing your eyes with a cold spoon is a popular Tiktok trend that hundreds of people are trying out. So obviously we had to get in on the game.

As the name suggests, the hack revolves around getting rid of puffy eyes by applying a cold spoon over each eyelid. In the video, Tiktok creator, @metdaan.diy takes two metal spoons and places them in the freezer for a few minutes and then begins applying the cup of the spoon over her eyes to reduce the puffiness.

We tried this hack out and based on our experience, it takes a couple of minutes for the cold spoon to actually have some effect on the eyes. What I did find out is that the cold metallic surface of the spoon actually helps constrict blood vessels and tighten the skin around the eyes making it one of the most effective beauty hacks for the summer.

Slugging

At first, when I came across the term slugging I thought that people are using slugs as hacks to up their beauty regimen, but boy was I wrong. Slugging is in fact one of Tiktoks most popular beauty hacks that had actually originated in Korea.

As shown by @drdrayzday, Slugging involves applying a thick layer of moisturizer or vaseline over the face and leaving it on overnight. Based on the video, this hack helps repair the damaged skin barrier and is an easy way to lock moisture into the skin.

After trying out this hack we found that it does help keep the skin moisturized, but it’s not meant as an everyday routine simply because it can lead to acne and will dry the skin if applied daily over a course of a couple of weeks. 

TIP: Those who suffer from Acne should avoid slugging at all costs as vaseline is known to form a barrier over the skin and can clog pores, leading to worse breakouts.

Create Winged Eyeliner with a Bobby Pin

Now this might not be a hack everyone’s going to use on a daily basis, but it surely is one that will let you create the perfect winged eyeliner with nothing but a bobby pin and some liner ink.

In the video, Tiktoker @essnce.cosmetics shows us how to create a perfect winged eyeliner by applying some liner ink on the edge of the pin and then gently drawing the wing over the eye. The end result is smashing and it’s one of the most crisp and well defined wings i’ve seen in a while.

Upon trying out this hack, I found that in order to get the crisp and defined winged eyeliner like in the video, the liner ink has to be applied with a steady hand. Since it’s not a brush, even the slightest movement to the sides can drastically change the appearance of the wing. But on the plus side, using a bobby pin will help you create equidistant wings that is pretty hard to achieve using a traditional eyeliner brush.

Though this hack does work, it’s not a good idea to play with bobby pins so close to the eye, so take it slow and be careful while attempting to recreate this hack on your own.

Transform your Eye shadow into Lip Gloss

I’ve always wanted a lipstick that not only felt weightless but also covered creases. But alas, I was unable to find any in the market. So I logged onto TikTok to see if I could find any beauty hack that could help me in this predicament. 

To my luck there were plenty of videos and one that really stood out was a hack shown by @mireyarios. Here, the creator goes to show how easy it is to turn your eye shadow into lip gloss and I thought to myself, this is a genius hack.

The process is rather simple, in the video she takes a dab of eye shadow and places it on top of her hand. She then proceeds to rub lip balm over the eye shadow and then apply the mix on her lips. 

I tested this out and was stunned at how effective the hack really was. The eye shadow was light and weightless just like I wanted and the lip gloss prevented any creases from forming. Literally a two birds, one stone kind of hack that you should try out today!

Use Lipstick as Blush Hack

Another beauty hack I came across was one where Tiktok user @feliciamaariemakeup uses red lipstick on her face to get the desired blush effect. The technique used by her involved directly applying red lipstick on the cheeks. She then blends the lipstick using a brush and tops it off with a layer of foundation. 

In my opinion, this hack has a 50/50 chance of working because when we tried it out, it looked bad and the red lipstick spread all over the face. So, after trying out the hack a bunch of times, we were able to replicate the look by using a minimal amount of lipstick and two separate brushes; one to blend and one to apply the foundation.

So it’s safe to say that this hack works and you get to save money on blush.

Shave your Legs using Sandpaper

The lengths that people go to on Tiktok leave me dumbfounded at times. While searching for beauty hacks we happened to come across something really crazy.

In a video, Tiktok creator @jules49of shows us how easy it is to shave her legs using sandpaper. Yes, sandpaper! I’m not sure if this is a magic trick or some form of sorcery, but rubbing sandpaper in your skin will peel away your skin layer by layer and is not recommended by any dermatologist.

I wasn’t even going to try this hack, but it’s worth bringing up because the internet is filled with countless so-called hacks that do more harm than good. So it’s best to be aware and knowledgeable about what works and what doesn’t before trying something out that will scar you for life.

Takeaway

TikTok is a great place to learn new tricks. But unfortunately not everything is as it seems. 

If you’re looking to save money on beauty products or simply up your game, refrain from trying everything you see online. 

Because a majority of these hacks don’t actually work and there’s a good chance you may end up in the emergency room because of trying something that’s trending online.

But, never have I ever bought anything from Etsy until a few weeks ago when a close buddy of mine told me about this high quality pair of Balenciaga dupes he picked up from Etsy for hardly $100.

The shoes were in really good condition and though they were fakes, the level of detail and craftsmanship put into making them clearly showed as it was almost impossible for me to distinguish between my original pair and the dupes he bought.

Are Etsy Dupes Worth It?

From Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton to Omega and Air Jordans, everything was available at reasonable prices and there was not just one or two pairs or a single type of hoodie/sweatshirt that was up, there were thousands of dupes and replicas from different sellers and it was mind boggling to say the least.

I found replica sneakers, watches, bags, dresses, jewelry, t-shirts, sweatshirts, and even gadgets like gaming consoles, USB drives, replica toys and much much more.

Personally, I did love the selection of products that were available and while most of them had a decent number of positive reviews, there were quite a few that stood out either for not having any reviews or for their misleading representational images.

Of all the replicas, I must say that some of the best selling items fell in the clothes and shoes category. 

However, what I did notice was that Etsy is a platform that does not only have replicas and fakes listed, but there are a bunch of authentic products available too that can at times confuse the buyer.

Are Etsy Dupes of Good Quality?

The quality of most of the dupes and replicas on Etsy is pretty good, but there are some sellers and stores that are out to make a quick buck and use copied or edited images instead of the actual picture of the product.

While shopping on Etsy it’s good to keep your expectations realistic and take each product with a pinch of salt. 

It’s also important, as a buyer, to check the reviews of each product before placing any order. At least this way you’re aware of the end quality and whether you will receive what’s advertised or not. 

Dupes on Etsy are generally made from good quality materials that will stand the test of time and this is evident from the number of customer reviews available on the site. But, I did come across a number of buyers who had expressed their concerns about the quality of products and how misleading some of the images were.

Again, it’s the same case with sites like AliExpress and DHgate too, where not everything is as they’re portrayed to be. Some replicas are made from substandard materials and this can drastically reduce the lifespan of the product.

For example, T-shirts or sweaters may shrink after washing and this is possible only if the t-shirt or sweater is made from low quality materials. Likewise, replica sneakers, handbags and jackets may have a couple of stitches that are out of place or come with frayed edges and this can really affect its look and appearance.

At the end of the day, it’s always a good idea to first go through seller reviews and then individual product reviews to figure out whether the rep you’re going to buy will be worth the money or not. 

What you can do while shopping on Etsy is to use the Sort by option and change it from Relevancy to Top Customer Reviews. The products that appear on the screen will be some of the best rated dupes and replicas available on the site, so it’s better to buy from those stores rather than some unknown seller with no reviews or ratings.

How Expensive are the Reps on Etsy? Are they Worth It?

Okay, so the fact of the matter when it comes to the pricing of dupes on Etsy is that products  have been sourced from Chinese and Asian countries, either from the manufacturer directly or through other online marketplaces such as AliExpress and DHgate.

This means that most of the dupes available on Etsy cost a little more than other platforms and I felt that this was a way sellers could make a profit. 

Most of the Etsy dupes and reps I came across, as shown above, are reasonably priced. I mean, the Air Jordan dupes on Etsy go for roughly $100-$150 and sometimes even $200 for a pair. 

The same shoes are available on sites like AliExpress and DHgate for under $100 and the most expensive pair would set you back roughly $180-$200 if bought directly from either the manufacturer or through one of these Chinese marketplaces. The same goes for all the other dupes on Etsy.

To sum it up for you, the prices on Etsy are quite decent, but only if you don’t have access to buy directly from a Chinese manufacturer or seller. 

So, if Chinese sites like AliExpress are geo-blocked in your country and you’re unable to purchase at a lower rate, then Etsy may be your chance to get your hands on a good quality dupe for a fraction of the price of the original.

How Does Etsy Handle Customer Complaints for Replicas and Dupes?

The first thing you need to know before making a purchase on Etsy is that the seller is not obligated to issue a refund or offer replacement. 

I had to learn this the hard way and though it’s not easy getting a seller to agree to process a refund to you for a flawed dupe or replica, it’s possible to some extent as long as you reach out to the seller and request them for a return or refund.

Etsy refund policies vary from shop to shop and because of this I know many buyers who have resorted to purchasing the same item from other websites that offer a standard refund or replacement policy.

That’s why if you’re planning on buying from Etsy, it’s best to first check the refund policy of the seller and then proceed with the transaction. 

For example, I came across a seller called Lemni Scate on Etsy and I was surprised with what I saw. A buyer actually sent an image of a note the seller sent to her for an order she had placed. 

It literally read “The package is on its way and that this message was just a notification  that’s sent out before an order can get shipped”. Though the message was sent to the customer, she did not receive her order and was clearly unsatisfied with the service provided by the seller.

Unlike sites like AliExpress, Etsy does not hold the buyers money in escrow and unless the order has not been delivered or if the order is not like what was advertised on Etsy, the Etsy support team will be of no help in getting the refund processed.

The one thing that I noticed about most of the stores dealing in dupes and replicas is that they did not have any returns or refund policy listed. However, when I reached out to a couple of sellers, they did offer refunds, but for exceptional cases, which is good, but not on par with other online marketplaces.

Buying Dupes Online: Etsy vs AlExpress vs DHgate

When it comes to buying dupes online, in my opinion, all three sites offer pretty much the same products. 

The only difference between AliExpress, Etsy and DHgate is that AliExpress and DHgate have a clear returns/replacement policy across stores and the same two sites offer high-quality dupes and replicas at cheaper and more affordable prices.

Are Etsy Dupes Worth It: Takeaway

In short, I found Etsy to be a user-friendly platform that hosts products from around the world. It’s only due to their lack of strict policies that low quality and substandard products are sold to customers. 

My opinion, if you want decent replicas or dupes, then Etsy is a good place to buy from. But if you’re looking from a pricing standpoint or if you want to buy from a place that has a better refund/returns policy then sites like AliExpress and DHgate are the way to go for retail buyers.

The only drawback to buying fakes and reps from other websites is that it takes ages for orders to get delivered from China and the risk of losing a package while in transit doubles when ordering overseas.

But with Etsy, since the products are available locally, you can expect to receive the order in the shortest amount of time when compared to other marketplaces.

I Bought The Tiktok Sunset Lamp and It’s worth the hype!

So, when I wanted to upgrade my wife’s wardrobe last month, I got on TikTok to see if there were any new hacks and tips that I could try with maybe a rubber band or two instead of unnecessarily splurging on something new and trendy.

I remember sitting up late one night and going through hundreds of videos on TikTok just to find the right hacks and tips to suit her wardrobe. 

Some of the influencers I came across like …… provided pretty handy tips with simple and easy to find items like bobby pins, rubber bands and at times a needle and thread. 

Within seconds they were able to transform most of their old clothes into something I wouldn’t have thought was remotely possible with such minimal effort. Well, I guess that’s just the level of creativity some people have. 

While some hacks appealed to me, others were not meant for her style of dressing and I had to carefully pick out the best hacks and tips to improve her wardrobe. 

So, here are some fashion hacks and styling tips I learned on TikTok that worked.

Hoop Earring Dress Hack

Since my wife has loads of dresses in her wardrobe, this styling tip was like a god send. Instead of getting rid of her old dresses, I got her to try the hoop earring dress hack and it worked as intended. 

The hack, as shown by @kalechng involves using a hoop earring or anything in the shape of the hoop and a rubber band to add some texture to the dress and at the same time to clinch in the waist. It’s simple, easy to pull off and doesn’t require any permanent alterations.

Transform a Tank Top into a Skirt 

This hack showed us how easy it is to transform old tank tops into comfortable to wear tight skirts that can be worn at home or to the beach.

I came across this video on @barbarasm99’s Tiktok account and it didn’t take her more than a couple of seconds to turn a bunch of tank tops into cute skirts. She simply criss-crossed the straps of the tank tops and wore them on her hips like a skirt. 

The only thing I noticed was that once the tank tops are worn as a skirt they lose their shape and can’t be used as a tank top again.

Adjust the Fit of Tight Jeans without Sewing

Now this hack was pretty helpful considering we have so many jeans and most of them have become tight to wear thanks to the whole lockdown and work from home situation. Not only was this hack easy to pull off, it saved us quite a bit of moolah too. 

Truth be told, I have been using this hack on my old jeans that I used to love wearing and I have to say that it actually works as intended with the only exception being that I have to wear a long T-shirt or a sweatshirt to hide the hairband.

In the video, @mahi.ka adjusts the fit of a tight pair of jeans by using a scrunchie or hairband. She loops the hairband around the button and then threads it through the buttonhole and back around the front of the button. This way the jeans stay on the waist and the waistline of the jeans loosens just enough so they remain in place. Simple and effective.

Turn a Maxi Dress into a Mini Dress

As I said earlier, my wife has a lot of dresses and there are quite a few maxi dresses that she doesn’t wear anymore. This styling tip helped transform her old maxi dresses into mini dresses in no time. 

But I had to let go of a few of my belts to let her do this and it was worth the sacrifice.

@kalechng to the rescue once again with this simple tip that can transform any large dress into a mini dress in no time. In the video she takes a belt and adds it on the outside of the maxi dress, but with the buckle at the back. She then lifted the hem of the dress and pulled it over the belt, adjusting the length until it sat well and voila a brand new mini dress without any permanent alterations.

Cropping an Oversized Sweatshirt without Cutting it

There are two ways to crop an oversized sweatshirt and both are quite easy to do. This hack appealed to me because my wife can now wear my old oversized sweatshirts outside the house and still look good no matter where she goes.

In one video creator @qumi_fashion showed us that the best way to crop any oversized sweatshirt is by using a shoelace. The steps were quite similar to the earlier hack on how to turn a maxi dress into a mini dress, but here the belt is to be positioned right above the stomach so the sweatshirt rises over the belly button.

The second video from creator @yvetteg23 was way easier and did not require using a belt, but it did have a drawback. Here, she goes on by tying the sweatshirt and then proceeds to tuck the sweatshirt inward. It’s a quick way to crop an oversized sweatshirt, but the knot can come loose and the sweatshirt will unravel giving it an ugly appearance.

Use a Hair Band to Hem your Trousers

This hack was pretty ingenious and instead of getting long trousers hemmed, I could now alter the length of our old trousers simply by using a hair band. I found the hack to be a proper quick fix especially if there’s no time to get the trousers hemmed or tailored. 

In the video @miiisheru takes a nylon hair band and pulls it over the hem of her pants. She then folds the trousers upward and over the nylon hair band until the trouser length is just right. 

This hack works and is similar to the two others mentioned above with the belt and the length can also be adjusted depending on what footwear you got on.

*I recommend using nylon hair bands as they are stretchier and don’t cut off circulation at the ankles.

Crop your T-Shirt without Cutting it

The trend of wearing crop tops is back again and instead of spending money on buying new crop tops I decided to share this trick with my wife so she can repurpose her old t-shirts and turn them into fashionable crop tops.

In the video, Tiktok creator @blackqueen_509 takes a simple classic t-shirt and begins to twist the front of the t-shirt. She then goes on to take a bangle and pull the twisted portion of the t-shirt through the bangle and twists the bangle up while tucking the sides and back of the t-shirt inward. This simple hack instantly turns any t-shirts into crop tops without having to cut the fabric.

Turn a Crossbody Bag into an Over the Shoulder Purse

My wife outgrew wearing crossbody bags a few years ago, but there’s still so many laying around at home. So the second I saw this styling tip, I knew that she had to give it a try. 

Here the creator, @atyasmeengarcia takes the adjustable strap of the crossbody bag and folds it towards one end of the bag and then proceeds to secure the shortened shoulder strap in place with a big ol knot and tucks the knot under the flap of the crossbody bag. The end result is a fashionable and chic over the shoulder purse that doesn’t resemble the old crossbody bag from earlier.

Create a Front Knot Shirt from an Old Shirt in your Wardrobe

Finally, a DIY fashion hack that changes the complete look of the long shirt by transforming it into a front knot crop shirt in no time. Instead of buying a new crop top shirt, consider trying this hack and trust me, you will enjoy how well it uplifts your entire look.

@abovethelastyle shows us how you can transform any old shirt into a front knot crop shirt without using anything. Simply button the shirt till right above the belly button and then knot the front sides of the shirt and then fold the fabric inward. With this genius hack, you get to wear some of your old favorites in new styles while saving money at the same time, so I consider this a win.

Though some may seem far fetched, there are plenty of creators out there who share hacks that actually work and can greatly improve any wardrobe with just a couple of simple household items.

Yeah, that’s exactly what I thought too until I came across the infamous Tiktok sunset lamp. 

As a millennial who gets his kicks from indoor shoots and who loves low-light photography, the sunset lamp was by far one of my favorite finds on that God forsaken app.

It has greatly transformed the entire aesthetic of my photographs and I’ve used the sunset lamp a number of times to help add definition to some of my best clicks. 

Truth be told, it’s worth the buck, but it’s not meant for everyone and definitely not meant to be used during the day.

As my mentor once told me, there’s no time better than the Golden hour if you want to take some really detailed and aesthetically pleasing photographs. 

Is it a Good Idea to Invest in a Tiktok Sunset Lamp?

When I first came across the sunset lamp, all I kept wondering was what’s the hype? Will it improve my photos, is the lamp affordable?, can I use it in different settings?

And from the moment I placed my order, until the time it got delivered, all I could think about was, “have I made the right choice?”.

I mean, loads of people have bought the sunset lamp and I’ve come across some really good photographs online that were taken with a sunset lamp as the primary light source and that literally piqued my interest.

Upon receiving my order I was taken aback at how small the lamp is in real life and how simple it looks. Like you can literally make one at home using an old lamp, a curved lens and a low watt bulb. 

Anyway, let’s talk about that on another day, and until then let me tell you about my experience using the sunset lamp.

What’s It Like Using the Tiktok Sunset lamp?

From the moment I took my first photograph with the lamp, I was in awe. It instantly gave my studio a rich golden hue that is generally quite difficult to achieve with natural lighting or any other type of lamp.

I was hooked, it’s definitely something that’s going to boost my creativity and make every photograph look unique and that’s exactly  where the lamp did not fail.

Now the problem about this lamp is that it’s a sunset lamp and if I wanted to have the golden hour effect in my photos, I would have to use it only post 8PM when it’s dark outside. 

I did use the sunset lamp indoors but the room had to be dimly lit with little to no natural light entering it in order to get the best looking photographs.

Yeah, that’s one thing they don’t tell you on tiktok and I’ve come across loads of videos where these influencers guarantee that the lamp gives the same effect during the day, which is totally wrong and incorrect.

The lamp technically does work in the day, but because of the low wattage bulb and how bright a room can get from natural sunlight, the beam from the sunset lamp was overpowered in well lit rooms and ended up being super faint which did nothing for my photographs.

I tried using the lamp in different rooms around the house and noticed that the hall and bedrooms were so well lit that it seemed like the lamp was non-existent. But I was able to use it in the bathroom while chilling in the tub. Trust me, that’s one really awesome way to relax. 

But from the moment dusk set in, and the rooms started getting darker, the sunset lamp kicked in and created a cozy vibe which could not be achieved a couple of hours earlier.

Sounds good right? Well I haven’t even gotten to the best part yet. You’ve all heard about Himalayan salt lamps right? You know the ones that have numerous health benefits when they’re turned on and can calm you down after a rough day? 

Well, the sunset lamp has similar properties and will create a positive indoor vibe that instantly makes me feel like I’m at the beach and the sun is setting over the horizon.

It doubles as a night light too and I’ve used it on numerous occasions when I wanted to wind down early after a long day at work.

What Didn’t I Like About the Sunset Lamp?

As someone who loves buying random stuff and considering that I’ve been duped a number of times in the past with substandard products, the sunset lamp honestly did not disappoint and I found only a handful of issues with the lamp.

While it did really well indoors, the lamp lacked the oomph factor on the outside and I also found the lamp to be far too bright to use while sleeping. It makes for a good mood setter, but lacks the ability to perform around the clock.

By now you must be thinking, what more could I possibly expect from the sunset lamp? After all it’s just that, a small and portable light source. 

Let me tell you that if manufacturers would have invested in a sunset lamp that you can change the brightness or color, then they would be sold out pretty much anywhere. The only reason why not many people are buying the sunset lamp is because they are not customizable and do not perform well during the day.

Is the Tiktok Sunset Lamp Worth It?

Did I like the sunset lamp? Yes, I most certainly did. But is it for everyone? Well that’s something you’ll have to figure out yourself and see whether it’s worth your money. 

If your sole goal is to find a gorgeous light source indoors or if you want to take decent outdoor night photographs or indoor low light ones, then the Tiktok lamp is worth it. 

But if you’re like most people that prefer to take photographs during the day, then the Tiktok sunset lamp is not meant for you and I would recommend holding off until something better comes along.

Benefits of Using the Tiktok Sunset Lamp

I’ve used the sunset lamp not only for everything I mentioned above, but also for its relaxing and calming effect. Everytime I turned on the light, I had this sudden rush over me that always led to a peaceful night’s sleep. 

It gives off a positive vibe that I would normally feel laying on the beach at sunset. The sunset lamp is also my go to when I want to take a long soak in the tub. Boy oh boy, I feel ashamed to say this out loud, but i’ve actually passed out a couple of times in the tub, after a long day at work.

Apart from this, there’s nothing special about the light. It’s worth the money and will turn any dark room into your own little paradise.

Firstly, the website will let you choose a gift card code where the value of these codes can range from $50 – $750. Once you select the most appropriate gift card you will be given the first half of the code, but the last 4 digits will be grayed out. 

In order to unlock the remaining 4 digits of the gift code, you will need to complete a verification process and fill up a survey or two. 

Now here’s where it gets interesting, these surveys are generated to collect your personal information like your mobile number or your email address and without entering either one of them, you will not be able to unlock the last 4 digits of the code.

The problem here is that once you enter your personal information and complete the surveys to unlock the last four digits of the code, the website will instantly freeze and the only thing you’d see on the page is a message stating that the surveys are waiting to be completed or are being processed. 

However, the last four digits of the gift card code will never be sent to you and instead, you will be bombarded with advertisements from telemarketers and spam emails and calls. 

This is only one example of the many websites up and running today that state they will give you free Shein gift card codes and all of these third-party websites operate in a similar fashion and mine your personal information.

PSA: Don’t fall prey to websites that claim you will receive a free Shein gift card code. Most of these sites will ask you to fill up a bunch of surveys to receive your gift card, but in reality these sites are mining your personal information and you will then be bombarded with a bunch of spam emails and calls. Shein does not have free gift card codes and the only ways you can get a gift card is by either buying one yourself or by receiving one as a gift from a family member or a friend.

How to Avoid the Free Shein Gift Card Code Scam?

You can avoid the free Shein gift card code scam by first checking the page to see whether they have free gift card codes for other brands. If they do, then the website is most likely a phishing site and will collect your personal information.

We’ve seen these butt lifting tiktok leggings. There has been so much of talk around how they help cover cellulite, and make your butt look better. But a lot of people have complained about not able to exercise in them and it’s kind of suffocating their butt and thigh area. Is there any merit to this?

What we think about the Viral TikTok leggings

If you haven’t heard of Booty Boost, then the TikTok leggings will interest you.

Booty Boost is basically a thigh high pantyhose that was launched in the US. The women in my team came across these products and tried it. Why? These were all the range in China. If you visit any Chinese retailer you would see these even before the Tik Tok trend. Don’t believe me?

Search for Leggings on Aliexpress and look at the results, they are all butt enhancers. They do lift the butt and one of the most popular brands is Seasum. Seasum leggings are quite popular.

Do they work? Depends on the body type

Here are the body types we worked with (This is our team posting with the tiktok leggings)

We tested out the TikTok leggings on Flat Butts, Big Butts, Medium Sized Butts and Huge butts. Here were the results.

The objective was to get a butt-lifting experience from these leggings and it did happen. The placement of the lifter is what I call it, is perfectly positioned to lift the butt. It does give better definition for those with smaller butts.

When we tried it on people with big butts, it made their butts look HUGE because of the already big size and the elevation. Would you use a push up bra on a person with ample breasts? No. It’s the same case here.

The Tik Tok leggings are definitely a lot more loose compare to LuluLemon and other brands and hence it doesn’t fit too well. Some people complained that it was too stretchy and didn’t hold things all too well.

While working out, you want your butt and thighs to be held well to avoid any sort of jiggle that can impede the work out.

Another experience from one of our writers about these leggings is, they do look crass, because they make your butt the center of attention. If you want to feel good about yourself, you can wear them at home. Otherwise you’ll be stared and ogled at because of the way your butt looks.

Another big complaint was the wedgies because of the ruching. It’s quite thick the ruching and because of that, your butt if lifted up. Padded bras are uncomfortable because they mash your breasts together and it’s the same case here with the lifted ruching which makes it super uncomfortable for a lot of people.

Summary : Definitely lifts your butt, but not that comfortable for working out because of the loose fitting and might give certain people a wedgie.
