What Modes of Payment Does Shein Accept? | All You Need to Know in 2023

by Dwain

Shein has been at the forefront of the fashion industry for their cheap and affordable clothes and accessories for a while and from the looks of it, the brand doesn’t seem to be slowing down one bit.

Shein has more than 31 Million Followers users and over 43 million users worldwide and are expected to IPO soon as well which shows that they are growing at an exponential rate.

Though the brand has amassed a large following, much like a cult, there are few who still have issues and are unable to pay for their orders online. Since this issue is limited only to those who do not have valid cards, not everyone will face the same problem.

To make things easier, I’m going to take you through what modes of payment Shein accepts and i’ll answer some of the most asked questions around this topic so that the next time you place an order on Shein, you’re prepared and your order goes through smoothly.

So, what modes of payment does Shein accept?

In short, Shein accepts the following payment methods on their website and app.

  • Credit / Debit Cards
  • PayPal
  • Coupon Codes & Bonus Points
  • Venmo
  • AfterPay
  • Klarna
  • GooglePay
  • ZiP

They even accept virtual cards and prepaid cards. These cards can be used to complete a purchase by entering the card details in the credit/debit card field on the checkout page.

Let me go in depth and take you through all there is to know about Shein’s payment methods and figure out which is the best method for you.

What Modes of Payment Does Shein Accept ?

I feel that it’s important to know what modes of payment are available on Shein before placing an order because it will be an utter waste of time searching for the right piece of clothing and adding it to the cart only to find out that none of your payment methods are supported by the site.

So, to clear the air, Shein only accepts a couple of payment modes and like many other brands they prefer credit cards and debit cards over cash on delivery.

Yup, from what I can tell, Shein does not provide cash on delivery, but there are ways around this which i’ll cover later.

For now, Shein accepts credit cards, debit cards, PayPal payments, Venmo, AfterPay, Klarna, ZiP and GooglePay. Buyers will also be able to apply coupon codes during the checkout process to bring the overall price down or to cancel out any shipping charges.

Credit Card / Debit Card

What Modes of Payment Does Shein Accept

As of writing this, Shein accepts 6 different card companies on their portal. If the buyer has one of these cards, then the payment will go through and the transaction will be successful.

However, if you do not have a credit or debit card issued by one of these companies then you will have to resort to using one of the other payment methods i’ll cover below.

Here are some card companies accepted on the Shein payment portal.

  • Visa
  • MasterCard
  • Maestro
  • American Express
  • Discover Card
  • Diners Club

One of the primary reasons why card payments take precedence on the website is because their transactions go through relatively faster than other modes of payment and Shein does not collect or store any card number or other information related to your bank account.

Pay Using Coupon Codes & Bonus Points

Shein makes their coupon codes and Bonus Points available when making payments. If you have enough codes & bonus points, you’ll be able use it as a payment method.

You will be able to either load money on your virtual PayPal wallet or have a credit/debit card linked to your PayPal account and have the money directly withdrawn from your bank account.

If you do not have a PayPal account, there are other modes of payment you can use such as Google Pay, Venmo or Klarna.

Pay Using Venmo

What Modes of Payment Does Shein Accept

Venmo is an online wallet that is available only to American citizens. Generally those who have a PayPal US account can also sign up for a Venmo account in a few simple steps.

It’s considered to be one of the easiest ways to pay for orders on Shein and only if you have a registered Venmo account will you be able to complete transactions using this mode of payment.

It works in the same way as most other online wallets, when a product is added to the cart, US buyers will receive a Venmo payment button on the checkout page.

Upon clicking Venmo, two things can happen depending on whether the transaction is carried out on the website (desktop) or on the mobile device.

Desktop Users

Desktop or laptop users will be presented with a QR code on the screen. They will have to login to their Venmo app and then scan the QR code to complete the purchase.

Once done, the payment page on the desktop will auto-refresh and a confirmation of the transaction will appear on the screen followed by a notification, email and text message.

Mobile Users

While placing an order using the Shein app, you will be presented with a Venmo option on the payment screen.

Upon clicking this button you will be taken to the Venmo app which will display a payment request from Shein.

Confirm the transaction and the page will automatically return to the Shein confirmation screen, post which you will receive a confirmation email from Shein as well as a debit message from Venmo.

Pay Using AfterPay

AfterPay is another online payment tool available only to American citizens. However, unlike Venmo and PayPal, AfterPay provides zero interest EMI with 4 partial payments every two weeks.

It’s easy to use AfterPay on Shein and it’s one of the preferred payment methods for those who want to buy over their budget.

To use AfterPay on Shein, you must be an American citizen with a valid debit or credit and over the age of 18. Sign into your AfterPay account and then add your necessary information to validate the account.

Make sure the email address on your AfterPay account and Shein are the same so both accounts get linked.

Now, place an order on Shein and on the checkout page select AfterPay from the list of payment options. Choose the installment period and complete the transaction.

AfterPay will pay for your order and you will have to pay AfterPay back in 4 payments, one made every two weeks. If payments are made in a timely manner on AfterPay then you will not have to pay any fees or interest on the purchase.

It’s also good to note that AfterPay offers a limit of $1000 to any member, so you will be able to use AfterPay for orders up to $1000 on Shein.

One more thing about using AfterPay is that it can not be used on gift cards.

So, if your order contains clothes and accessories as well as a gift card, to complete the transaction using AfterPay, you will have to split the order in two and pay for the clothes using AfterPay and the gift card will have to be paid for using any alternate mode of payment.

Pay Using Klarna

Though Klarna is quite like AfterPay in terms of payment options and zero interest fees, it is available in many countries and you’d be able to use Klarna in the US only if you have a residential address in the US.

The concept is simple and as mentioned above, you will not have to pay any interest or fees to convert the order amount into an EMI.

Klarna breaks the order value into four equal amounts that can be paid back over a period of 6 weeks. The first payment will be taken on the day the order is placed and every two weeks the rest will get auto-debited from your bank account.

Much like AfterPay, Klarna also has a spend limit of $1000 and will not work while purchasing gift cards.

Pay Using Google Pay

Google Pay has only recently started gaining traction in the US and is now also one of the payment methods available on Shein. Google Pay works much like Venmo and will be linked to any bank account of your choice.

While completing any transaction on Shein using Google Pay, you will be taken to the Google Pay app and once the order amount is approved, it will get debited directly from your bank account.

You can even link your debit or credit cards to Google Pay and pay for new orders using the Google Pay app. Since Google Pay is considered to be a payment app and does not support installment payments, it can be used to pay for orders that contain gift cards.

Pay Using ZiP

ZiP is another pay-later app that lets you buy anything up to $1000 on Shein and pay ZiP back in four equal interest-free installments. It’s fast and convenient so many people prefer using ZiP to pay for their orders.

To have a ZiP account, you must be over 18, have a registered American mobile number and a valid American debit or credit card.

The payment will be taken from ZiP and you will have to pay the company back in 4 installments, one every two weeks. Late fees will be applied if the payment is not received by the due date and like AfterPay and Klarna, you will not be able to use ZiP to purchase gift cards on Shein.

Pay Using Apple Pay

Unfortunately Shein users will not be able to pay for their orders using Apple Pay as the payment system is not available on the Shein platform. The only way you will be able to use Apple Pay to pay for an order is by entering your Apple Card details in the credit card section of your payment page.

You can follow these steps to have it done; Sign into your registered Shein account and then add the products to your cart. Now, head over to the checkout page and under payment – credit card / debit card, enter your Apple Card number and security information. Finally, tap on Confirm order and the money will be directly debited from your Apple Pay account.
